240p: Task S01e02

She rolled her eyes. “240p? Seriously?”

Kaelen frowned. That wasn’t in the episode description. He remembered the show. It was lighthearted. Silly. This was different. The camera slowly panned to the table. On it lay a single object: a photograph of the Vault. Of this Vault. And in the photograph, standing next to the data towers, was Kaelen. task s01e02 240p

His new assignment blinked on his screen: She rolled her eyes

“No,” he whispered. But his voice came out as a 22 kHz mono hiss. That wasn’t in the episode description

The last thing he saw was the man in the grey suit folding his hands on the table. “Don’t worry,” the man said, as Kaelen’s consciousness fragmented into 320x240 tiles. “We’ll just reset. Find a new Archivist. After all… Season 1, Episode 2 is very popular today.”

Kaelen felt it. A cold pressure behind his eyes. His vision began to pixelate. The edges of the Vault blurred into chunky squares. He looked down at his hands—they were dissolving into blocks of color. Red, beige, shadow.

She grabbed her kit and headed for the Vault, passing by a slumped figure in a hoodie sitting motionless against a wall. She thought it was a broken maintenance drone. She didn’t look twice.
