Mario stood on the hilltop overlooking the Toadstool Kingdom, squinting at a thin, jagged line of black light that split the perfect blue horizon. It looked like a hairline fracture in a ceramic plate. He rubbed his eyes, blamed the extra mushroom he’d had for breakfast, and headed for Peach’s Castle.
It spiderwebbed across the sun, dimming its warmth. Toads ran screaming through the market square as cobblestones lifted and clicked into place like puzzle pieces resetting. A Goomba stumbled past, its usually dopey face twisted in terror. "It’s the Wrong Pipe!" it shrieked. "He went down the Wrong Pipe!" super mario crack

And then the Goomba snapped apart into eight-bit squares and vanished. It spiderwebbed across the sun, dimming its warmth
He stepped sideways. Into the crack. And he kept falling long after the game stopped playing.
Before Mario could answer, the floor fell away.
"You found me," said the other Mario. He didn't turn around. "I've been here since '85. Every time you reset the console, I don't disappear. I just... wait. In the crack between power-offs."
