The story follows their "galwakdi" (courtship) period. Initially, Karan is put off by Bani's outspoken nature, and Bani dismisses Karan as a typical foreign-returned "mama's boy." However, as they are forced to spend time together through family functions and situations, they begin to understand each other’s vulnerabilities. The conflict arises from Karan’s domineering mother back in Canada and Bani’s fear of losing her identity in a traditional household.
