Change Lock Screen Image [best] 〈RECENT〉

Elara’s phone was a museum of the dead.

The alpine lake vanished. Her own laughing face filled the screen. It felt strange. Selfish. Almost rude.

Her thumb froze. The world felt off-kilter. "No," she whispered, jabbing at the screen. She navigated to Settings > Display > Lock Screen. The old image was still in her gallery, but the phone stubbornly refused to set it. File corrupted, the error read. Select a new image.

A new photo she didn't remember taking. It was from last week, at a bookstore. A friend had snapped it without her noticing. Elara was mid-laugh, face scrunched, holding a silly poetry book. She looked alive. Not the hollowed-out widow, but someone with a crease of joy beside her eye.
